So back home, changed my plans today from 100 miler to 100 K (62 miles) gravel travel.
Ran into Annie Bikes, and her friend Jan, headed out of town too. They were riding county roads to Balltown. If you Bike in this town, you know Annie. She's well over 20 trips across the state, 100s of centuries, double century, and more. Her new bike, Surly Long Haul Trucker just did RAGBRAI with full gear.
We parted at a fork in the road, where pavement goes one way, and gravel the other.
The first 10 miles of trail is really beating my CX bike to death. Ruts and rocks. Should be on my Hardtail or my full suspension, but I love the speed of the light weight cycle cross for trail. The trail conditions improved, the head wind was beating on me, I knew I would get paid back on the return trip. I sure did, places where the trail conditions would allow full speed ahead, I could fly.
Today was a welcome change in weather, a slight fall feeling in the air. Now I look forward to fall riding. For the first time in weeks, I did not have to replenish my fluids during the ride.
Future Bull-lony.
RideON,
DAve
