I done did it again, I couldn't help myself

Beautiful day for a bike ride. Did Dirt Metric Century today, rode a lot of it on Heritage Trail that makes 21 metric centuries and 3 hundred milers on dirt/gravel for 2009. Was hard to keep my heart rate up in a good workout zone, took a harder push. There was a bit of fatigue going on, didn't want that to mess the ride today. Unless you've been there, hard to understand, but nothing like 5 hours riding a bike, on dirt trails, gravel, sliding around, tuned into music, in your own world, your own thoughts. Trek XO2 perfect bike for rides like this.

Metric Dirt Century #20 for 2009

Rode a metric dirt century today. Pushed the pace, felt well. Knee has been behaving with making sure I do all my ITBS stretching. I wasn't a believer in stretching prior to getting the advice from my knee doctor, it is helping. I drank about a gallon and a half of liquids, mostly water on the ride. Wasn't enough, drank another 1/2 gallon of water after I got home. Look at the little gnome home I discovered.
Peace, and wellness.

Metric Dirt Century today

Just past this bridge there are two downed bridges. They have been down since June of 08 after flood rains. I head through a small field at the end of this bridge, and ride gravel to the town of Graf Iowa and pick up Heritage trail there. Love it.
I ride a small stretch oh Highway52 north of Dubuque, this is where I get to turn off and stay on gravel/dirt. It is a relief to get off the pavement, and cars flying by, and catch the serenity of country side.

100 Miles today

Rode mostly trail and gravel, as you can see repairs are needed.
Rode to "Field of Dreams" it amazes me, over a 100 people here, where a movie was made 20 years ago. They still keep coming. I ate my chips and watched them.

Rode to Dyersville and saw these two big missles. I wonder who they are aimed at.

So Don't tell my knee doctor, but I rode 100 miles today. He thinks I should take it easy until my ITBS resides some. Rode to Farley

Saw where the gnomes live.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome

Iliotibial Band Syndrome, cortisone, and stretching. Well saw the doc Tuesday. Though I do have some significant knee issues. Unbeknowst to me, my main problem is Iliotibial Band Syndrome. Doctor David Field said I ride to much bike for a knee like mine. That was the one thing we were not in agreement about. "To much bike" is an oxymoron. The lateral ligament/tendon were inflamed. He gave me a shot of cortisone, and stretching exersises to do. I rode the next two days following that 20 miles each. Things feel good, so the game plan is to get on the bike early tomorrow, see how it feels and put some milage in. So see you on the road.
Happy rides

Blast'n away

The one and only Bob Roll
Rode for an hour after work today. 4 good hill climbs. Funny how a high energy hard ride gives such a good "buzz" some hours later. I guess one of the reasons us endorphin junkies do what we do. Had great energy to ride full blast. Must be vicarious energy absorption obtained from watching "the tour" Catch great coverage of the Tour De France on Versus. See picture of the BobKe back in the hair days.

A century in the Dirt

Rode out into the country. Exceptional day. 80s, sunny, not much wind. My 48 ounces of fluids ran out at mile 23. Wasn't until mile 32 that I had a place to stop for more. Purchased 64 ounces drank about 24 oz and headed on. Saw very few other riders today. Stopped and moved some small downed trees out of the way, leaving the trails in better condition then when you started makes for good sense. That was dirt century #18 for the year, includes both metric and 100 milers. O "Cup of Dirt" where art thou?

Headed Out

Headed out, if all works well, Lord willing, will do 100K dirt riding. I put in these Hostas's and rock planters last two weekends, when I was nursing a sore knee, see what you can get done when you are not pedaling your bunns all over Gods green earth!!!! Watching part of the "Tour" right now, what horses.

Where Pit Bulls nap

Where does my Pit Bull, Pitty, take her naps? Seems where ever she wants.
