My Weekend

Spent the weekend near St Paul Minnesota with this little booger Cole my grandson, and his mama and papa. It was good time for all, and I don't get to see them enough.

His mother, my daughter Melissa is training to run a marathon. I think she's nutz, I mean God gave us bicycles so we wouldn't have to run that far.

I warned my legs that they had two days off and be ready tomorrow for a day of crank and pedal. Tomorrow I took a vacation day. Seems most all my 5 weeks vacation was spent with my butt on a bicycle seat. Yahooo.

I am making a map for what back roads to pedal around on, I need some new terrain.

Also I want to take a bow saw along and cut some tree limbs out that I have been stopping and lifting my bike over. It is part of the public trails that have not been opened up or maintained yet. This summer it grew shut and I would ride the Highway fog line to get out on the other trails and gravel roads with cars buzzing past me at 60 mph. I'd prefer not to ride that way.

Startling NEWS for me this week at work. The Power Plant that I have worked at for the last 33 years is closing, they are selling the river front property to the city. A lot of different scenarios could occur. I'm 57 years old, maybe it will be time to get serious about bicycling.

Tomorrow is metric #91 gravel for 2010. LQQKing for One Oh. Oh. a.k.a. #100 I do want to wrap this up, by Thankx Giving. I've been putting all my energy into gravel travel. 16 gravel centuries in October. My skinnie tire bike is terribly jealous as all get out. After mule-ling all this gravel travel with knobbies the zip of a pavement is going to feel exhilarating.
Hope your weekend was fun.

So,I am thinking you are considering retirement with the store closing - you said something about "getting serious about bicycling." And this song drifts into my mind, "Rocky Mountain High . . . Colorado." It is your destiny. You would love it.

Wow, it's closing? Is that a coal plant? I think you have some serious thinking to do. Retirement wouldn't be so bad!

Hmmmmmm - is being jealous wrong of me!!!

Hope the plans come together for your best case scenario - whatever that may be!

Ride on Rider

Lisa the plant is coal and gas fired. Environmental compliancy is not occurring in the smaller plants due to economics and economies of scale.
One never knows, one possibility is due to how slow things can move perhaps I can stay employed there until age 62. If necessary I can work in other power plants.
Perhaps this will get me to longer distance touring. :-)

I'd bet it takes awhile to close something like that down.

Pretty cool if you swing "early" retirement and open up a some serious riding time.

With the kind of mileage you put in already, seems you could pull off something epic with a bunch free time.

Even more impressive at your, uh, age. I'm not all that far being you....
