Chilly Willy and frozen eyesickles

Was peaceful out in the countryside today. I put insulated snuggies on my two large water bottles. I noticed they started slushing on me early anyways. It was 4 degrees F out. I drank what I could the rest was slush. So 20 miles and 3 hours later, I could feel a dehydration bonk coming at me. Turned around and rode home, thirsty and dry. Currently re hydrating with barley hop juices. :-) I might try to put water bottles in my back rack with a chemical warmer the next time I ride and it is this cold. Winter riding takes precise planning and packing. Not like summer riding where you can hop on a bike with your bike clothes and water bottles. I learn something every ride.

Headed down Heritage Trail, snow was packed and rode well.

A old country church. If this building could talk, I bet there would be lots of stories to be told.
This poor fellow loss his body. As I rode away a large chocolate lab ran up, grabbed the deer's head and trotted away with it. Seemed kinda surreal. There are a lot of coyotes out this way, they might decide differently who gets the deer head. Lab will be no match for those brute beast.
Hey, well thanks for stopping, be good to those in your lives, and ride a bike, it will help your spirit, soul, and body.
Peace and over and out.
Dave

OMG!!!! I don't even want to know.

I was grossed out by a little blood on the groomed skiing trail today. Glad I didn't see THAT.

Yeah, not having the water freeze in the bottles is a problem. 2 things I've done that help: I got a couple of insulated bottles and carry them in a bag and not in a bottle cage. Starting out with 90-degree f water helps somewhat too.

Also, I bought a Camelback Scorpion, meant for skiers. The water in the reservoir doesn't freeze, but I have to drink just enough often enough to keep the bite valve from freezing. I don't really like these backpack things, but you can carry a lot of non-frozen water in one...

Thanks, Michael, I am going to pack fluids in my back rack next time, and start with them warm. I've found out due the extra work of snow riding and the slower pace, I am using as much water as a hot summer day per mile.
Triple D route remains in good shape. My goal is simple, try to finish, at my age there is no race, just completion on the agenda.
Thanks for visiting.

Yessir, that's my plan as well. When I was a young buck, racing was all the rage. Now I'm just in it to be in it.
